About Chelsea

Chelsea is a neighborhood on the West Side of Manhattan in New York City. Its boundaries include West 14th-34th Streets and 7th Ave to the Hudson River. Chelsea is surrounded by Hell’s Kitchen, Hudson Yards, Garment District, Midtown South, West Village, and other popular areas.

Named after the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London, England, Chelsea also contains a historic district designated by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. The diverse residential neighborhood is part of Manhattan’s art district and home to ethnic retail businesses, a booming LGBTQ community, and more than 200 galleries. The area is full of walkable eateries, attractions, shops, and performing art venues.
