Central Park

Considered Manhattan’s crown jewel, Central Park is the city’s iconic backyard that welcomes millions of visitors to its famous stretch of green space annually.

About Central Park

Central Park is the first landscaped urban park in the United States. Its construction began in 1857 and was based on a winning design from the contest, “Greensward Plan.” The result is 843 acres of land that plays host to 47 million visitors each year. From stunning sculptures and fountains to lakes and a zoo, Central Park offers locals and visitors a fun recreational space or a verdant respite away from the city’s hustle and bustle.

Where to Eat in Central Park

Whether opting for a sit-down meal or takeout one can enjoy on a park bench or picnic blanket, Central Park has it covered.

Located across the street from Lincoln Center, Café Fiorello is a popular spot for pre-theater dining. The Italian restaurant offers everything from light bites at the antipasto bar to dinner and cocktails. They also have a late-night sandwich menu available after 9 pm. Diners can enjoy dishes such as thin-crust pizza and chicken parmigiana.

Bluestone Lane brings Melbourne’s coffee culture to NYC by providing diners an escape through premium quality coffee and healthy eats. In addition to lattes and flat whites, they also serve a seasonal menu, ranging from granola and pastries to Avocado Smash, Warm Chicken & Grains Bowl, and Green Baked Eggs.

Pascalou is a chef-owned innovative French bistro with charming décor accentuated by vases of fresh flowers resting on white linen-clad tables. It is complemented by an elegant French menu, including dishes such as escargot and sauteed foie gras. In addition to French classics, the menu crosses borders to treat more adventurous palates with dishes such as “Indian-style” vegetable curry and “Thai-style” vegetable wok.

What to Do in Central Park

Central Park is a playground for kids and adults where things to do and see are endless.

Bethesda Terrace is a large plaza that is a favored spot for relaxing, people-watching, or simply admiring the surrounding architecture and sceneries. At the center of the Terrace stands Bethesda Fountain, also known as Angel of the Waters, one of the park’s most beloved works of art and the only statue that was specifically commissioned for the park.

Spread across 6.5 acres, the Central Park Zoo offers the perfect outing for families. Three significant habitats –the Polar Circle, Temperate Territory, and Tropical Rainforests offer exciting experiences and animal viewing of an incredible variety of species, including penguins, snow leopards, sea lions, and grizzly bears.

The 20-acre Central Park Lake provides more than a beautiful view. Rowboats are available for rent during the spring and summer months at the Loeb Boathouse. Visitors can also take a Venetian-style gondola ride or simply take a stroll along the shore.
